Hello Panther Fans and Welcome to the Winter Sport Season. Hard to believe that Fall Sports 2010 is behind us and Winter Sports 2010 is beginning.
Please come out and support all of our Panther athletes as they compete in their respective sports. Boys and Girls Basketball, Wrestling, Girl's Gymnastics, Cheerleading and Poms have been preparing, and we wish them the best of luck! Athletic Boosters would like to remind you as to how important it is for the athletes to have fans in the stands, it's a great feeling when people are cheering for you, so please come out and show your Panther Spirit! If you can’t make it, tell your kids to come and support their peers! It’s fun, and it’s a night out for the kids.
We have a lot of great opportunities for you to help support Athletic Boosters. Our goal, for the second year in a row, is to have concessions open for all Varsity events, and all lower level wrestling tournaments, but we can not do this without parent support. We need you to give up some of your free time to help us meet this goal. If every family who had an athlete that competes gave 2-5 hours per year, we would be in great shape. So please take time, look at the calendar of events that we have on our website, www.gbnboosters.com, and see when you can help out. Then send us a quick response telling us your availability, and we will add you to our schedule. We will never leave you alone if you are new to the volunteering and we will train you! Your volunteer hours are how we distribute money back to our school sports. Last year we gave over $16,000 back to athletics through Concessions and Apparel sales. Every hour that you work $5 goes back to the sport of your choice. The coaches along with the Athletic Director then decide on how to appropriate their team funds based on their needs. Ask your coaches about what the team needs are. Get involved. The more hours your child sport has in their team account, the better we can help serve them.
In addition, we are also looking for new leaders for our group. In the past few years we have had many graduating families that have remained true community servants and have stuck around to help us in many capacities because of a lack of new parent involvement. We need the parents of the Classes of 2011-2014 to take on a leadership role. We love having our graduated parents involved, but I'm sure they would like to fade away since their kids already have. So while you are sitting there reading this, in between time-outs, or at half-time, or between wrestling matches, between gymnastic events, between competition routines, think about it, can you find some time to be a Co-President, Vice President, Golf Outing Chair, Way and Means Committee Chair, Concessions Operations, Concessions Purchaser, Track our Volunteer Hours, be a Team Mom and be responsible for helping us sign your team up to volunteer? We have many opportunities, we have small roles, and we have big roles. Ask a friend it he or she wants to co-chair a committee. We really need you. Without new parent involvement Glenbard North Athletic Boosters will not continue to thrive, please consider it. If you want to talk to someone about getting involved, email us off the website. We will be happy to talk about it, in fact, we will be thrilled!! And your GBN ATHLETE WILL BE THRILLED TOO!
Lastly, we would like to invite EVERYONE to our First Annual Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, March 19, 2011. You are in for a treat, dinner will be prepared by the Head Chef from Cantigny, and it will be served by our very own GBN Athletes. We will have live music, a silent auction and many other great things are planned for the evening, so put it on your calendar! Like always, we appreciate your support.
Have a great season!
